Cheryla Dawn Hortin

Cheryla Dawn Alexander Hortin, 61, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family January 15, 2019 after a courageous 2-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born May 15, 1957 in Shelton Washington. She was a long-time resident of West Valley City. On June 12, 1992 she married the man of her dreams, Randy Hortin, in the Jordan River Temple.

She was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young woman she served a mission in Tampa Florida. She held many church positions throughout the years including serving a stake mission and an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple with Randy.

She spent 35 years working for the State of Utah Driver’s License Division, until she retired in July of 2016.

Of all the callings she held in life, her favorite was wife, mom and grandma. She spent the last 2 years of her life traveling and living life to the fullest.

She is survived by her husband Randy; her kids Mandy, Jay (Jayme), Justin Hortin; 6 grandchildren, Braden, Katelyn, Becklynn, Cohen, Kemry and Colby; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Preceded in death by her dad, Milton Alexander; mom, Jane Alexander; and father-in-law Kent Hortin.

We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Anna C. Beck, Vicki Rosser, Jutta Deininger and the team at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Their thoughtfulness and caring helped make these past 2 years better.

Funeral services will be held at 12pm, Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Pheasant Brook Ward located at 3970 South 5200 West, where a viewing will be held prior to services from 11-11:45 a.m. Friends and family may also visit at a viewing at McDougal Funeral Home, Monday, January 21st from 6-8pm. Interment at West Jordan City Cemetery.
