Courtland Lee Marshall

July 29, 1936 — July 18, 2021

C. Marshall

Court Marshall, (age 84) our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle peacefully returned to the loving arms of our Father in Heaven on July 18, 2021. Court was born on July 29, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah to LeGrand and Donna Marshall. He is the oldest of five children. His youth was filled with playing sports, including football in the street and basketball with his friends. He attended East High School, where he met the love of his life, Ms. Diane Ririe, when he offered to “buy” her a drink at the drinking fountain. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 21, 1958. Among some of the final words he spoke in mortality was “please take care of my wife.”

He became an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when as a young man, his friends and adult youth leaders encouraged him into activity through his love of sports, namely basketball. At the age of 26 and with a young family, he was called to be the bishop of the Granger 15th Ward. As bishop, he was responsible for helping to raise funds and the construction of the local ward building where he personally spent many hours helping to install the electrical system in the church building. He enjoyed serving in various other church callings and especially loved serving the youth of the church. He enjoyed sharing his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. He spoke often of his desire to have his family with him forever.

He had several careers including starting a handful of unique businesses. His last job was in Facility Management for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and this became more of a passion for him. In all of his jobs, he put his heart and soul into the work.

Court loved BYU football, watching any and all sporting events, performances, and recitals by his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed playing sports especially basketball, where he never admitted to fouling anyone! He enjoyed golfing with family and friends. Some golfing trips with his brothers resulted in property damage that just “happened.”

His hobbies and passions include animals, gardening, and hunting with family. He suffered a stroke in 1998 which affected the physical mobility of his left side, and he could no longer continue with the same rigorous work schedule that he loved doing. He retired in 1999 and remained as physically active as possible; he could still drive, golfing with one arm, asking his grandkids and others to arm wrestle, yard work, and taking care of his home and family. Court loved to laugh. Often, his family enjoyed watching him laughing and giggling when watching his favorite movies, especially the original Pink Panther Movies. He had the ability to crack himself up, and in the process make others laugh. His sense of humor was on full display during birthday Sundays, as family gathered, he would bring up a past event and get everyone laughing.

Court is survived by his wife Diane; his children Michelle Oakeson, Camille (Jeffery) Jensen, Leslie (Ryan) Orullian, Stacie (Jon) Bready, Mark (Kristine) Marshall, Taunya (Phillip) Hanney, Bryce (Sadie) Marshall, Brooke (Craig) Feustel; 33 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents LeGrand and Donna; brothers Gary and Rick; and sister Sharrie Bouman.
