Diane Brown Carlen, our cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, transitioned peacefully to the other side of the veil on the evening of November 10, 2019, due to complications of Alzheimer’s.
Diane was born July 24, 1938 in Provo, Utah to Berniece Weight Brown and Rolland E. Brown. She was raised in Springville, Utah, graduating from Springville High School where she was active in the A ‘Capella Choir, Booster Club, and Pep Club. During her senior year, she began dating the love of her life, Lynn M. Carlen. Sixty years ago November 19, 1959, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity.
Diane worked in nursing and education throughout her life. She loved serving others and had a soft spot in her heart for babies and children. She loved to sing and had a beautiful alto voice. She was a talented artist and loved crafting, painting, quilting, and knitting. She was a great cook and loved making delicious meals for her family. She enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors, sporting events, dance recitals, singing in various choirs, and traveling with her sweetheart. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Diane was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served the Savior by faithfully serving in the Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary. She served a 3 year mission on Temple Square with her eternal companion, Lynn.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Lynn M. Carlen; her children Brenda (Tom) Johnson, and Greg (Lori) Carlen; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers Arnold (Elaine) Brown, David (Lori) Gunn; and sister Virginia (Butch) Matinson. Preceded in death by son Bryce Carlen; parents; and brothers Abiah Brown and Phillip Woods.
Special thanks to Wendy at Inspiration Hospice Care for the compassionate care given our wife, mother, and grandmother and the staff at Summit Senior Living in Kearns, Utah.
