Doralyn Myrna Steinfeldt of West Jordan, Utah, passed away in her home on March 30, 2021 surrounded by her daughters and husband.
Doralyn was born in Salt Lake City on April 20, 1941 to Eldwin and Leona Stout. She was their first daughter and second child of eight. She graduated from Granite High School in 1959 and married her eternal companion in the Salt Lake Temple on August 30, 1961. They were residents of West Jordan for their entire marriage of 59 year where they raised their children and gained lifelong friendships.
Doralyn gave birth to and raised six children, but because of life’s circumstances, she became a proxy mother to many more. When her sister-in-law passed away, she nurtured her infant for over a year until he was placed back into his father’s care. When The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints offered student exchange with the Navajo nation, she opened her home for one of those students—a young lady named Salena. When her father died, she took in her youngest brother and helped him prepare for a mission as well as becoming a grandmother to his children.
She also opened her home to a niece for a couple years as she prepared for college.
Doralyn was preceded in death by her mother; father; brother Bob; and daughter Claudette.
She leaves behind her husband, Marlin; five children, Randall, Cindy, Brad, Lori and Shauna; seven siblings, Charlie, Patsy, Rae, Sandy, Rick and Steve; 28 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. We will all miss her wonderful meals, homemade gifts, her warm hugs, her smile, her laugh, and her undivided attention in a conversation. Also, without her, where will we turn when we need someone to read the rules of the latest game, how to spell “chaos,” or when we should use, “lay,” “lie,” “laid” or “lain.”
There will be a viewing at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, on Sunday, April 11, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held the following day at her ward building, 7511 South 2700 West, at 11 a.m., where a viewing will precede services from 10-10:45 a.m. A broadcast of the service will be available for those who are unable or feel uncomfortable to attend.
