Douglas Craig Brookins

On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, this world lost an incredible man. Douglas Craig Brookins was a loving husband, a father of two children, and a grandfather of 4 grandchildren.

Douglas was born on July 19, 1962, to Gary Allan Sr. and Patricia Ann Brookins, in Salt Lake City, Utah and grew up in Kearns, Utah.

He spent his youth doing everything he could to experience life, and he enjoyed every minute of it. On June 30, 1984, he married the love of his life, Cyndi. From day one, they were always known as Team Doug and Cyndi and knew that they were meant to be.

A lot of people knew him as "Mr. Fix it," because he really could fix just about anything. Whether it was some type of home/yard repair or keeping a vehicle on the road. He was the man for the job. He loved tearing into engines and doing repairs or upgrades. Before the days of the internet, he learned how to fix things simply by getting his hands dirty, and he loved it.

He worked for Shasta Beverages for 37 years, in various positions, but by the end, was the maintenance mechanic.

Doug liked to spend his time shooting with his club, the Single Action Shooting Society, as Wasatch Shep. He really enjoyed dressing up as a cowboy, and he thought he was an old western gunslinger. He was competitive but also loved showing younger shooters the ropes. He enjoyed teaching something new to anyone who was willing to learn.

He really enjoyed long rides on his Harley Electra Glide. Nothing made him smile more than hitting the open road with his wife, son, and brother. He also loved having his sweetie on the back of his bike, and cruising through canyons, taking in the scenery.

Douglas is preceded in death by his mother Patricia A.; father Gary A. Sr.; and sister Donna M. He is survived by his wife Cyndi N. Brookins; son Elric A. (Devinn) Brookins; daughter Elyssia A. (James) Ekstrom; four grandchildren, Evan, Tatum, D'Lia and Adelynn; brother Gary A. Brookins Jr.; sister Karen A. (Lee) Nelson; and various nieces and nephews.

Doug will be unbelievably missed. His goofy, weird outlook on life always gave us something to laugh about, and always made us smile. He was the crazy glue that held our family together. Any one of us could expect some silly selfies on our phones if they were left within his reach, or a "big buddha belly rub," to make us laugh at the most random of times. He loved teasing anyone he could, just to see them smile. He had a heart so big and so much love to share with the world.

He was a man of many talents.

We will miss you, and we all love you, so very much.
