Taylorsville - Edna Barton Staley (85) peacefully returned home to her Heavenly Father on May 19, 2021.
Edna was born on November 6, 1935 to Stanley Barton and May White in Widnes, Lancashire, England. Her early years, in England, were during World War II where she learned to be resilient, independent and self-reliant. It was these lessons that lead her to be a great example to others in her life. She lived for a short period in Germany and then moved to the United States of America at age 12 where they settled in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Upon graduation from Blackfoot High School, she went on to serve her country in the Air Force. She met her sweetheart, Royce Wallace Staley, while helping out friends at the Curly Q Diner in Blackfoot, Idaho and they were married on April 13, 1957 and enjoyed 62 years together until his passing in 2018. Together they had three children.
In addition to raising her family she worked in the education field with special needs children for many years. She retired from Hartvigsen School where she built lifelong relationships with many of her students and fellow staff members. She also devoted much time to civic duties - including working as a page for the Utah legislature, serving on the Taylorsville Planning Commission and volunteering with the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Edna was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She touched many lives by serving in whatever way she was asked - whenever she was asked. She wrote, directed and produced many Roadshows that are still remembered today. She had many talents including ceramics, card making, scrapbooking and holiday decor. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed Jackson Hole, Branson Missouri, New York City and Lava Hotsprings; but her favorite place of all time was Disneyland. She enjoyed all things Disney including collectibles, movies, clothing and music; but most of all sharing Disneyland with her family.
Edna & Royce spent 55 years in a close knit neighborhood where they were blessed with strong friendships that helped them through good times and bad. She enjoyed a lot of social activities including her Ya-Ya sisters, her Hale Theater group and her Desert Star Playhouse friends.
She is survived by her children Kenneth Staley (Stacey), Michelle Bateman, Roger Staley (Serena); sister Viola Hansen (Reed); brother-in-law Bob Staley (Diane); 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces; and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Royce W. Staley; her parents Stanley Barton and May and L.D. Burrell; parents-in-law Wallace and Lucille Staley; her sisters Doris, Mary and Pam; and brothers Kenneth and Ralph; her son-in-law Kristopher Bateman; and great-granddaughter Nicolle Staley.
