Lois Horton Kerr

Lois Kerr passed peacefully early Christmas morning after a long fight against congestive heart failure. It gave all of us who loved her much peace to know that her beloved husband was at her side holding her hand when she took her last breaths.

Lois was born in American Falls, Idaho August 22, 1936 to Meda Wadsworth and Henry Horton. She was the eldest daughter and as such always sought to help her siblings and family. She moved often as a child going to nine different schools in eight years as her father sought work throughout Idaho. Though home life was not easy, she found respite visiting her Grandma and Grandpa Wadsworth as often as she could. She loved to spend days there working with her grandparents on the farm, playing with her older brother Jay, younger sisters and her cousins, as well as the farm animals.

Although education was not a high priority in her family, she loved school and she loved to learn. Lois was an excellent student and was one of few in her family to graduate from high school. She did go on to earn a certificate in business/secretary skills. Though she always felt regret that she didn’t attend college, she continued to learn and develop her talents her entire life. She became a wonderful artist and spent countless hours drawing and painting. She shared her paintings with family and friends and had several commissioned paintings as well.

Just after high school Lois met Tom Kerr when he returned to Challis, Idaho on leave from the Navy. Their courtship lasted all of two weeks, when they decided to marry, so Lois could go back to California with him. This began what would be sixty-four years of marriage. Together they lived in California, Idaho, Guam, Hawaii, Washington State, and Utah. Their marriage was full of joy, heartache, challenges and great triumphs. They remained loyal and dedicated to each other through it all.

Lois and Tom are the proud parents of five children, twenty grandchildren, and eleven great- grandchildren. Lois was a devoted mother and grandmother. Without exception she loved all of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed sharing their accomplishments and triumphs with all she knew.

Her love of her family paralleled her love of Jesus Christ and his restored gospel. She was forever grateful that her mother sent her with the neighbors to be baptized when she was eight. She was also grateful that after many years of marriage, her husband Tom joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married and sealed to each other and their children in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Lois is survived by her beloved husband Tom Kerr; son: Michael Kerr(Carmen); daughters: Dana Kerr Slabaugh, Karen Kerr Morris(Mark), Kimberly Kerr Bissegger(Dave), and Katie Kerr Groves(Tyler).
