Lori Ann Woodward Clayburn

Lori Ann Woodward Clayburn passed away June 9, 2020. After fighting cancer valiantly for over 11 years, she was peacefully released from its clutches in the arms of her sweetheart. In her last days she was surrounded by her family and loved ones. Lori was born July 9, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marilyn and Grant Woodward, and was the youngest of four children. Lori was an outgoing, friendly, and caring child, attributes she carried into adulthood and throughout her life. She enjoyed riding horses, gymnastics, time in the Uintahs with her family, and summers in Kamas. She was an Oakcrest counselor, with the very fitting name, “Sunshine”.

Lori attended Holladay and Crescent Elementary, Mount Jordan Junior High and Jordan High School. She was proud to be a Beetdigger and made many lifelong friends in school. She was Sophomore and Senior Class Vice President, a cheerleader, in Dance club, Drama club and a VICA member.

Glen and Lori had a whirlwind romance leading to their marriage on May 3, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were foster parents for several years which eventually lead to them getting their two sons, Chris and Damian. They opened a family owned ice cream parlor called Teddy Bears Creamery, where they enjoyed spending much of their time. Lori was very involved with her community and family. She spent many hours working with the youth of her church. Lori was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout their marriage and retirement, she and Glen spent a lot of time traveling all over the world, making memories with each other and those they met. Her favorite travel spot was Sedona, Arizona where she could soak up some sunshine and relax with Glen and their puppies, Sophie and Sunny.

Lori worked as a legal secretary for multiple law firms and ended her career as an arbitrator in the legal department at the USPS.

Lori is preceded in death by her loving parents; mother and father in-law; and two nephews. Lori is survived by her loving husband Glen; sons Chris Hird and Damian (Christie) Clayburn; and her four grandchildren; McKell Hird, A.J., Scott, and Madison Clayburn. She is also survived by a sister; two brothers; and in-laws; as well as many nieces; nephews; and their children.

The family would like to extend our love and appreciation to the Valeo team, especially her nurse and friend, Jessica Barnes, for their tender care of Lori. We also would like to express our thanks to Dr. Jonathan Whisenant who was Lori’s oncologist for the full 11 years and helped her explore every treatment option and gave her the best care.

There will be a viewing held Sunday June 14, 2020 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8950 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The family would appreciate it if those attending the funeral would bring a mask to wear and respect the guidelines set in place for safe socialization in these times.

Lori will be greatly remembered for her optimism, laugh, persistence, and sweet smile. She had the kindest heart and made everyone feel loved. We will miss her dearly.

Lori was always on an adventure and we are so excited for the new one she has embarked on without any more suffering.
