Mette Else Hansen Schaer was born on October 28, 1937 in Copenhagen, Denmark to Karl Henry and Helfred Hansen. She passed away March 28, 2020 of causes incident to age, surrounded by her loving husband and daughters.
Mette started her life during the Great Depression. Because of WWII she could not start Kindergarten until the age of 8 but she made up for lost time and finished university, starting a career in typesetting and graphic design, owning her own business. Later, when she and her daughters immigrated to the United States, Mette worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a lifelong member where her favorite church calling was leading the music. She was an avid writer, making many contributions to the danish newspaper Bien. She enjoyed singing, knitting, traveling with Grandpa in their trailer, and going for long walks with her grandchildren.
Her keen sense of humor will be missed by those she leaves behind including her husband, Arnold Schaer, who she married in the Manti temple on February 27, 1988. She also leaves behind her children Sander Lund, Anne-Mette Howland, Elisabeth (Keith) Taufer; bonus children Duane (Cindy) Schaer, Kevin (Dorothy Brown) Schaer and Charlene (Kelly) Gibbs; 27 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Mette was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Eli Larsen, Jytte Galanis and Ole Hansen.
In light of current circumstances, the family will be holding a private graveside service, with a celebration of her life to be held at a later date.
