Ohlan M Campbell, 88, of West Valley City passed away on December 20, 2018 of natural causes. Born in 1930 at the height of the Great Depression to George Arzy and Myrle Mangum Campbell, Ohlan was particularly proud of his Widtsoe, Utah heritage. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served missions as a young man to the North Central States and later with his wife, Kathleen, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also served in the US Navy during the Korean War. True to his depression era heritage, Ohlan practiced thrift and industry. At the same time, he quietly set about helping neighbors, friends, and especially family, giving generously and often. Despite humble beginnings, Ohlan obtained college degrees and worked as an Electrical Engineer at Sperry Univac and Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, CA. Later he taught math at West High, Highland High, SL Community College, and BYU, and became a successful investor.
While much of his success can be attributed to hard work and perseverance, Ohlan Campbell was just plain lucky in love. He married Kathleen Murdock in 1955. Kathleen brought color, imagination, and flair to the partnership. He is survived by his wife Kathleen; brothers, Dell (Carolyn) and Elgie (Sonia); children, Lindsay (Carolyn), Ohleen (Scott Hansen), and Louis; along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Nothing was more important to Ohlan Campbell than family. Over the course of his life tenure, he spent very little time on himself or personal interests, choosing instead to focus his efforts on his family to whom he was fiercely loyal.
Funeral Services will be 12:00 noon on January 5, 2019 at the Hunter 3rd Ward, 3770 South 5600 West, West Valley City, Utah.
