Ronald Eugene Dautel

Ronald Eugene Dautel passed away in his home on January 29, 2021 while recovering from open heart surgery. He was surrounded by the love of his wife, Marian, and four children, Jason, Heidi, Sara Rose, and Benjamin. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal Boulevard in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

Ronald was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 9, 1955 to his parents, Eugene Felix Dautel and Brigitte Ethelgard Margot Koska Dautel. They had immigrated to the United States from Germany three years prior, in 1952. Ronald was their eldest son, and they raised him to appreciate the beautiful traditions of their homeland as well as the liberty and opportunities of America. Ronald was the older brother to four wonderful siblings: Ellen, Raymond, Heidi, and Rudy.

As a child, Ronald was active and involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He earned his Eagle Scout by the age of 14, and developed a strong interest in electronics, reading, and sound equipment. Ronald was a dedicated, hard-working young man, and also deeply spiritual. His father baptized him into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 26, 1963 in the Tabernacle. Ronald grew to love and honor his priesthood, and faithfully served in the Germany Central Mission from 1974-1976. He has since served in many church callings, including young adult president, assistant ward clerk, elder’s quorum president, counselor in the bishopric, librarian, high councilman, primary and nursery teacher. Ronald also served many years as a temple worker, leading and helping others in sacred, meaningful ways.

Ronald married Marian Moulton on July 18, 1980 in the Salt Lake Temple. As a loving, devoted couple, they are proof that opposites attract. Marian is creative, artistic, and imaginative, while Ronald is more reserved, practical, and steadfast. In a letter to her brother Joe, written in 1979, Marian said, “Ron is a spiritual, sensitive, crazy, fun-loving guy. I wouldn’t marry him unless the spirit told me. It was never a BOOM!, just a warm feeling in my heart.” Ronald loved Marian with his whole heart and worked relentlessly to provide for her and his family.

In 1980, Ronald earned an Associate in Applied Science degree from Utah Technical College in Engineering, Drafting, and Design. For over 40 years, he worked for the Utah Power Company in several different positions, including draftsman, blue staker, and service fleet coordinator. Ronald had recently retired and was able to spend the last two years of his life resting and relaxing with friends and family.

Ronald really loved children, and somehow, he was always able to make them smile and laugh. In addition to raising his own family, Ronald was lucky to bless the lives of his two granddaughters, Zoey Adelyn Davis and Rowan Cora Unice Dautel.

Ronald is survived by his wife Marian Moulton Dautel; and his children and their spouses: Jason Dautel and Micah Unice, Heidi and Trapper Davis, Sara Rose and Grant Probst, and Ben and Manda Dautel. We hope that Ronald has found peace and joy, reuniting with his parents and beloved sister Heidi, who preceded him in death.
