Our Mom, Velma Jo Gray Asay, passed away on June 10, 2021. Mom was born on January 9, 1938, the oldest with 2 brothers and 2 sisters, to Verlyn F. and Norma Adell Gray in Ely, Nevada.
Mom was raised in McGill and graduated from White Pine County High School. In 1959, mom met our father, Rolan L. “Buz” Asay in Tucson, Arizona. They were married on January 15, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. Children followed beginning 9 months later; 9 of us: Jeff (Devny), Jim (Fara), Carolyn Liedtke (Wade), John (Denise), Kaylynn, Marilee Peterson (Keith), Milton “Doug”, Mike (Pat) and finally Kristine Acord (Benjamin). Mom is also survived by her husband; her sister Helen; 16 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers John and Verlyn; and her sister Colleen.
Mom aspired to nothing more than providing a safe, healthy, happy and loving home for her family. Mom did this very well. Mom was devoted to her Heavenly Father, and served actively in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Goodbye Mom, until we meet again. We love you “a bushel and a peck”.
Please take a minute to remember the wonderful lady that you knew.
