Wilma Rogers Smith passed away peacefully at 7:29 pm Rocky Mountain time on May 9, 2019 at Saint Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 90. All 6 of her sons were there, along with wives and grandchildren to send her off on her celestial journey. Her final wish was to see her children again at the same place and she was delighted to have her wish granted.
Wilma was born on May 25, 1928 in Knoxville, Tennessee in Sevier county where she grew up and helped raise her younger siblings, sewing clothes for them and helping on the farm. Wilma is preceded in passing by her late husband Linden Edsel Smith of Darby, Idaho. Wilma met Linden whilst he was on leave during the Korean War. They married in Idaho after moving from Tennessee to start their lives together. Shortly after, they moved together to Kearns then moved to where they spent most of their lives living in Sugarhouse, then West Valley City.
Wilma and Linden were later remarried and sealed in the Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Wilma was a passionate seamstress and she put her love and her soul into making things for family and friends throughout her life. Many cold winter nights were warmed by quilts she had made. Clothing, dresses, upholstery decorative boxes, curtains, hats, buntings for her many grandchildren, there was nothing she could not put fabric on.
During her life she worked countless long hours not only raising her children but working a full-time job to make sure her family had things that they needed. Her retirement was well earned, yet Wilma could not sit idly by, she spent her retirement years volunteering at the Bishop’s storehouse where she donated countless hours and years giving loving service to make sure people had the things they needed.
Wilma is survived by her 6 sons and their wives from oldest to youngest: Mike and Lesa, Randy and Cindy, Wallace, Kerry and Keri, Lynn and Maureen, Jared. Wilma is further survived by her 20 grandchildren: Earl, Alan, Natalee Mecham, Randy, Cassandra Carr, Matt, Amanda King, Scott, Austin, Devin, Travis, Jeremy, Heather, Roger, Derrick, Casey, Chris, Kelly, Kaitie, and Jessica.
